Yup. KFC has finally abandoned their stupid curry fried chicken idea and gone back to selling the good old Hot & Spicy. FINALLY.

I don’t get it. Why introduce a new recipe/dish and take down the old one that’s known to be popular? It just doesn’t make business sense. Sure, the curry fried chicken (or the previous tom-yam flavour experiment) might taste alright, but when I walk into an eating establishment that I’ve been going to since I was a small little girl (see profile picture on the right heehee), I’d like to have the same old stuff available. Such as my favourite Hot & Spicy fried chicken.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to introduce the curry (or tom-yam or whatever other flavour they think of next) fried chicken alongside the usual menu? Kinda like McDonalds. When they have a promotional set, it’ll be available alongside all the usual popular items on the menu. I can still get a good old Filet-O-Fish during Chinese New Year when McDs has their Prosperity Burger promotion. No one’s ever told me: “Sorry miss, tak de Filet. Got the all new xxx burger set. *big hopeful smile* U want?”

Isn’t that just simple common sense? You make money off customers who stick to the old popular favourites, while also raking in cash from those happy to try the new recipe. Voila! That translates to MORE money!!$!$!

Seems like really simple common sense to me. Don’t know what the KFC people were thinking.

But thank goodness Hot & Spicy is back! All this writing is making me hungry for some. smiley

I’m suddenly in a mood for all those retro hits. Can’t help but boogie when I have Earth, Wind & Fire playing on my iTunes. Undoubtedly the coolest band ever to exist. smiley

Got into this whole retro thing tonight ‘coz of that Madagascar soundtrack website that I was surfing earlier on. That movie, I tell you, does something to you. The story isn’t great, jokes are okay, but somehow it just sticks to your brain.

Especially THAT song. You’d go: “oh my god I can’t believe they used that stupid song!”, but then later you’ll realize those lines of “I like to move it, move it” are seared to your brains, and you catch yourself in mid-step of a bit of that lemur rave party dance sequence. It’s not a great song, but it’s so silly and fun at the same time it makes you wanna boogie like those half-crazed lemurs.

Well, if you’re up to it for another dose of THAT song, you can go listen to it here. There’s a playlist and you don’t have to pay to listen. If you truly hate THAT song, I’d say skip on to the Earth, Wind & Fire, and BeeGees selection on that soundtrack.

Retro disco definitely rocks. smiley Always works in lifting my spirits up a bit. Especially when I miss my darling and had nothing to do for the entire day. Was feeling kinda restless the whole day, and realized that I have a habit of stuffing myself with all forms of media consumption to cure boredom. Watched Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (Jim Carrey overdid it this time: his Ace-Ventura antics don’t belong in this dark whimsical film), continued reading Terry Pratchett’s Guards! Guards!, spents hours combing through the Star and the Malay Mail (I hate this tabloid but I was bored), surfed the net and hung around online… etc etc.

Well, I’m feeling much better now after managing to place a call to Tokyo.

Hotel frontdesk: *highly animated voice talking full speed in Japanese in really lo0ong sentence* “blablabla..”
Me: (Totally forgot that they’d be speaking in a different tongue there) *what happened to “mushi mushi”?*
Me: “Er, Hel-lo. Can I have room x-x-x-x please?” (slowing down and enunciating those numbers real well)
*long pause*
Frontdesk girl: *garble garble in something but I don’t get it* “blabla room xxxx?”
Me: “Yes yes room xxxx! Thanks!” *JOY!*

The line connected to the room, and I totally forgot about using those Japanese phrases I know like konbanwa and arigato gozaimasu. Damn. But I was happy the call went through.

I think I’ll try saying arigato tomorrow night. Meanwhile, it’s back to boogie-ing with my music! smiley

just got back from KLIA earlier just now. Went there to send my darling off to Tokyo. I’m gonna be stuck here in this heat while he goes off to enjoy that 23 Celsius non-humid weather in that strange country for about a week. *no fair*.

I find Japan quite intriguing. Was ‘inspecting’ my darling’s wallet earlier today and thought that the Japanese notes look a lot like the kind of ‘notes’ we Chinese burn during those hungry ghost festival. Those hellnotes thingys. No offense meant (if there are any Japanese reading this). Seriously. It was just strangely the first thought that came to my head. The visa they stuck in his passport also looked kinda creepy somehow. Must be the black and white photo.

And then, I always think everyone there speaks like anime characters, always full of energy and expression. I met his Japanese language tutor once. And even though I don’t speak her language (besides “konbanwa”) and vice versa, I somehow managed to sort of understand what she was telling his classmates at the hawker place, what with her intonation, expression and hand movements. Amazing.

Their cuisine. It’s brilliant. I can’t say I’ve had much excellent Japanese food here in Malaysia/Singapore, but I think it’s brilliant anyway. Which is why I would really want to go there some day. To see if people really speak like anime characters (n maybe learn some phrases myself and speak like that too) and to MAKAN! heh. Plus, my darling tells me that those pretty transparent plastic umbrella everyone carries in the Japanese dramas are given away for free in Tokyo. That’s a bonus for me. smiley

Guess I’ll only have time for this next time in the future.

Speaking of which, I’m already halfway through my holidays. Time really flew by. I thought I had a lot of time, but it just slipped away. I feel like I’m watching a fast-forwarded video of myself. First, when the plane landed and my holidays started, I was exiting the airport at normal speed. Then unknowingly, things kinda sped up. One moment I was eating dim sum breakfast with my darling, next moment someone is speeding up the video so I’m seen stuffing myself with siew mai ravenously (which can be rather unsightly). Then, both of us shopping around, our legs a blur (and shopping bags increase, hands empty again, and increase again). Blablabla. Then suddenly, *ding*. We’re at the airport, and it’s June already. Hello, and half your hols is over.

Ok, that was a pretty lousy description there (which reminds me again why I am taking Scriptwriting next sem — I’m determined in flushing out all cheesy-ness and corny-ness in my writing smiley ) but that’s pretty much how I feel sometimes. Everything passes by in a blur. Not that I’m not aware of everything that goes on. I appreciate everyday that goes by (good and bad days), when I kinda like watch the tape in retrospect and think about them. But the speed of time, is so fast it’s like a blur (coz someone keeps playing my tape in fast-forward mode. Damn.).

I am totally not making sense. I shall not be responsible over anyone kneeling over foaming in their mouth after reading the above passage. Myself included.

Time to get some sleep.
I think I’m just gonna Zzzzzzz…
